Suprisingly, D & RT SURVIVED the 2 weeks INTENSIVE course.

D & RT received their certificate.

Now D & RT are able to;

• be polite ( D & RT most used word = ursakta mig! jag sent! which means sorry i'm late)
• order FOOD (VERY useful)

23rd and 24th January, 2008 both days @ 13.00;

D & RT did a presentation on 'Radiography in the UK'.

Audience: 2nd (24th) + 3rd (23rd) years Radiography students + lecturers.

The presentation covered;

• Overview of the UK
• English culture
• Overview of Ipswich
• Radiography programme in Ipswich
• Student customs
• National Health Service (NHS)
• Society of Radiographers ( SOR)
• HPC
• 10 statements of professional conduct by SOR

The coordinators were IMPRESSED by D & RTs' presentation.

23 rd January 2008;

First day Clincal placement at Lund Hospital.

VeRa (inpatient X-ray) + RT (outpatient X-ray) + D (outpatient X-ray)

They had a good day.

Amazed to observe the 'so many different views' done on one examination.

5 views for knee! 4 views for pelvis! and that is ROUTINE.

Images must be viewed by the radiologist before the patient can leave and might request MORE views.

D & RT went to the lecture on the Swedish culture and music.

It was really good. The lecture was given by Vanessa Poole- An English married to a Swedish.


Bits and pieces form the lecture;

Apparently;

• The typical Swedes;

Conscientious, honest, loyal, tolerent, believers in equality, lovers of peace, lovers of nature, clean, kind, modest, defenders of the weak and calm

• The typical Swedish businessman is;

"Inflexible in his arguments and behaviour - unwilling to discuss and adjust, slow to take decisions, over- cautious, avoids conflict and a stickler for punctuality. Difficulty to get to know, hard to work with and for, stiff, no fun, dull and conceited."

On the other hand, the typical Swedish business women is described as "clever, extremely easy to get on with, modest and fun."

• The typical Swedish manager;

Is not expected to have all the answers, delegates authority, expects staff to take initiative, is reflective, rational and accessible, requires good listening skills, requires good negotiation skills, requires good reconciliatory skills and always punctual.

The successful Swedish manager has to "create an image of not being powerful"

The Swedish people are very conscious of their lifestyle; they do not like to be too showy, they love to share and they in moderation. A concept Swedes live by is LOGOM, which means "just enough"

Registration day

D & RT was accompanied by Bodil + Erna ( the coordinators) to the AF Building, where the registration took place.

D & RT registered for the Swedish Language class + Baught tickets for the Excursion + Welcome Party + got their keys to the apartment.

D & RT were impressed with the apartment;

3 bedrooms + 1 spacious living room + 2 toilet + 1 bathroom + spacious kitchen + balcony + 1 storage room.

LUND UNIVERSITY

D & RT were given a tour of the University and the Hospital.


D & RT were very impressed with the student facilities.


The Radiography Department at the University have two anatomy rooms with 24hr access.


There are 30 libraries available within Lund. Easy access to Journals. Unlimited number of books that can be borrowed for half a year without charge.
